National Geographic calls it one of the most scenic drives on Earth. Travel writers routinely run out of superlatives. First-time visitors pull over every few minutes simply to stare. The Icefields Parkway is, without qualification, extraordinary — and this full-day private tour gives you the entire experience at your own unhurried, completely private pace.
Bow Lake
~20–30 minutes
The Icefields Parkway opens its account with a statement. Bow Lake is a peaceful glacial lake at the foot of the Crowfoot Glacier — its calm, clear waters reflecting the surrounding peaks with extraordinary fidelity. It's a beautiful introduction to the scale of what lies ahead, and a reminder that on this particular road, even the 'lesser' stops are world-class.
Peyto Lake
~45–60 minutes
Peyto Lake is one of the most famous viewpoints in the Canadian Rockies — and for very good reason. From the elevated lookout, the lake reveals its extraordinary wolf-head shape in an almost improbably vivid turquoise colour produced by suspended glacial silt. The view across the lake to the surrounding peaks and the Mistaya Valley beyond is one of those panoramas that photographers return to year after year and still can't quite capture fully.
Waterfowl Lakes
~10–15 minutes
A quieter, more contemplative stop along the Parkway, Waterfowl Lakes offer a scene of serene mountain beauty — the lakes flanked by dramatic rocky peaks on all sides, with a stillness that contrasts beautifully with the more dramatic stops of the day. A moment to breathe, reflect, and absorb the landscape.
Mistaya Canyon
~45 minutes
One of the Parkway's most rewarding and frequently overlooked stops, Mistaya Canyon is a dramatic slot canyon where the Mistaya River has spent thousands of years carving extraordinary formations through ancient limestone bedrock. The swirling potholes, sculpted walls, and rushing glacial water make this a photographer's paradise — and the short walk from the parking area makes it accessible to all visitors.
Saskatchewan River Crossing
~30 minutes
Set at the confluence of three mountain rivers and surrounded by peaks on all sides, Saskatchewan River Crossing is one of the most panoramic lunch stops in the entire Rockies. The views from here — in every direction — are a worthy centrepiece for the day, and your guide will use this vantage point to share the broader story of the Parkway and the landscape you've been travelling through.
Glacier Viewpoints (Optional)
Flexible
The afternoon brings optional stops at some of the Parkway's most dramatic roadside viewpoints: Bridal Veil Falls, the towering Panther Falls, the dramatic switchbacks below Cirrus Mountain, and roadside views of the Glacier Skywalk area. Your guide will tailor these stops to conditions and timing, ensuring the day closes as spectacularly as it began.
